27th Birthday Home High Tea

Birthday moments from yesterday. Turning 27 during lockdown in the UK. As nothing is open and we have to stay at home, we created a high tea, tea party style set up on the dining table. We created a table scape with plates and napkins we already, and I stopped by the party and home section on the most recent food shop and pick up paper straws, a pink table runner from Habitat, and paper confetti. I also added some fresh flowers for more of a garden party vibe. Seeing as we are stuck in an apartment I wanted to bring some life from outside in for the celebrations.

I baked a Victoria sponge with raspberry jam and butter cream filling and fondant icing I coloured  myself into a pink marble effect and piped on my own patterns and designs. I’ve loved making this cake and am looking forward to working on my decorative skills. Hayden bought me some cupcakes from a local baker. Carrot cake with vanilla butter icing and Ferraro Rocher and Lindor toppings. They were delicious.

Our apartment is on the top floor which is a fancy way of saying in the roof, so we have slanted ceilings which is a great aesthetic but it means that we have no fill height walls to hang anything or even put furniture against. I compromised and made a little wall scene. Using a Ginger Ray backdrop. Which was a little fiddly to get right. But it was really worth it, a Happy Birthday bunting that I got from the supermarket a pompom fairy light garland which was the same colours as the backdrop. and honeycomb hangers to create something of interest along the top of the backdrop. I had so much fun pulling this set piece together. I do wish I remembered to buy batteries for the fairy lights though. I think that would have really made it pop.
