Dorset Wine Festival

Dorset Wine Festival – 10 Castle Street

This is the first wine festival that Dorset have done and I was so happy to be able to witness it first hand. You pay your £36 ticket fee. ’35 quid!’ i hear you cry, yes but you get to drink pretty much as much wine as you can. I found a cheeky little discount code and took full advantage of it, because I am a student.

I’ll be the first to say know nothing about wine. Apart from I like reds more then white and sparking, but couldn’t tell you what regions I prefer of what grape is best.

We were given little glasses to try samples and a que card to take notes and to use our drink tokens. Ever the good student, I took notes but they got more incoherent as the day progressed.

We were in the grounds of 10 Castle Street which is a members only hotel, restaurant, bar but you can be a guest. I’ve wanted to see 10 Castle for about a year and only got a glimpse of the entry hall and bar, which were both perfectly decorated, but I would have loved to have been shown around.

Little marquees and spittoons were set up either side of the water feature, with all the wine vendors sheltering from the sun in the marquees. We started on the wine sparking side of the lawn. We sampled a German white from Philip Lang, and progressed down the Ardor. We got chatting to the merchant who chatted about how Ardor was made, the process of labelling the bottles the very impressive stand they were serving from. Ardor is the wine made from the same people who run The Larderhouse which is a restaurant in East Dorset with a unique bar. Which I really want to go to and will be going with H soon.

We explored the whole festival and found the Mother Ukers performing and the marquee where wine talks were going on, art sections to design the new label for 10 Castle Streets wine.

Having ticked off a few wine tokens we headed to the far field for some fuel. We chose the  Growler food truck and got sweet potato fries which were delicious. I went for mayo and H had ketchup.

After refuelling we headed back for more wine tasting. One of the stands was a lady talking about needing all your senses working to really appreciate wine. We were given nose clips to show how effected you can be by not having a sense working while tasting things. You can actually go on courses about wine tasting which is something I’d really love to do. To actually be able to talk about wine rather then saying it tastes delicious. We were told that if you eat the right food you can really have which ever wine you like, you just have to know what it goes will with.

We caught the last section of the South African talk about wine. Their vineyards are in Franschhoek where they talked about rain fall, struggles of growing a vineyard. Holden Manz had a merlot which was one of my favourites of the whole day. Here we are with 2 of the 3 People from South African wineries.

We worked our way around to a very friendly guy who told us that there was a wine he had called Bonkers, which we of course tried and loved. Everything he recommended we loved and he’d only tried everything that day. I felt really on the same page with him yet he knew what he was talking about.

I really hope that they host the Dorset Wine Festival again because it was really interesting learning about wine, I feel like I know a bit more then i did at the start. Next time I’d like to book lunch.

I hope this inspired you to come to the next wine festival, I’ll surely be going again.

Lace and Glen Plaid

Getting a cute jacket is one thing, then finding out it’s one of the key pieces for this season is a whole other kettle of fish. I got this jacket purely because it was cute and I love a jacket. Glen Plaid ( Prince of Wales) is all over the blogosphere at the moment and I couldn’t be happier.

I knew that this victorian inspired blouse would be the perfect fit with this look. Really bringing out the 70’s elements, which I am all about. Finally added my mums hand-me-down of a vintage Calvin Klein faux fur bag.

I wore this look to the Dorset Wine Festival at 10 Castle Street, which I’ll tell you all about soon. Thank you for reading.

Winter Skincare | Hands

Hands are so important and I think one of the most missed parts of the body when it comes to taking care of them. We are all told that it’s important to moisturise your face, so you look younger for longer. But hands are neglected and they are one of the places I think ages us the most.

As we head into winter our hands are taking the toll. Here are my favourite hand care products to keep your hands looking youthful and moisturised in Autumn and Winter. Don’t forget to wear your gloves too.

Cath Kidston – A mini trio of floral scented hand creams. Each sent transports you to a stately home somewhere. A scented hand cream instead of perfume? people complimented me on my perfume and i’ve had to tell them it’s actually my hand cream. They are perfect handbag emergency hand creams.

Cath Kidston

Geranium is my favourite scent.

I’ve the worst nails so I use Burt’s Bees cuticle cream to protect my nails as much as possible from breaking. I massage my nails with this lemon butter after using hand cream and feel very protected. I don’t feel like i’ll be getting and ripped cuticles or sore skin. Also smells amazing and comes in gift sets all the time.

Burt’s Bees

Burt’s Bees almond Milk and Beeswax hand cream is a very thick and sticky cream that needs a little working into the skin, but sinks in and moisturises deeply. It’s a very traditional smell, you smell the almonds and the honey and that’s it.

Something a little fancier for your paws is the Elemis British Botanicals hand and nail butter. Just listen to the list of ingredients. Wild flax, sweet orange, lavender, oats, patchouli, rosemary, burdock, geranium, thyme, camomile. That’s not even the whole list. It’s a beautiful concoction of scents and is such a light butter that it could be used all over the body.

Elemis

The heavy lifting hand cream comes from Elizabeth Arden.

This will sooth your winter skin ailments and leave you feeling like you’ve shed your skin and am fresh and clean. A thick gloopy cream from the Eight Hour collection, that you have to really work into the skin and leaves your hands sticky for ages. Which makes you stop what you are doing and really massage your skin. A little me time while taking care of your hands.

Elizabeth Arden

What are your must have hand care staples during Autumn and Winter?

Monty’s Lounge | Burger

Monty’s Lounge is a quite burger spot in the heart of Bournemouth. I’ve heard about Monty’s for the better part of 2 years and finally decided to go. We arrived at golden hour and were pretty much the only customers saver one table next to us.

You can find Monty’s in a few places around Bournemouth: Pokesdown, and Bournemouth Centre.

Website here : Monty’s Lounge

The decor was relaxed, beachy, hipster and artsy all at the same time. A real mish-mash of styles, but it kinda worked. The hand painted Bournemouth scenes on the pages on the walls were a highlight for me.

To the burger.

We each got the cowboy, he got an extra patty and we got the same sides. The sweet potato fries with added bacon and maple syrup.

The Cowboy was a tantalising taste, it was a mix of zing and flavour. The classic crunch of crisp lettuce cut through the sauce and balanced the flavours perfectly. But it didn’t really taste like a cowboy burger. I was expecting something deep down and dirty, I got a very good burger that has a miss leading name. I loved the addition of bacon to the side, but would have liked the maple on the side to drizzle it myself. What can I say, I like to play with my food.

I enjoyed the service and the food and will be going again. I think the raging cajan is next.

What I look like waiting for a burger. Grumpy that I don’t have food and excited to eat a burger.

Wedding Guest – Culotte Jumpsuit

I spent the weekend in St Albans for my cousins wedding.

My cousin studied fashion at university so I knew her wedding would be beautiful, and it really exceeded my expectations. I wanted to wear something beautiful too, but couldn’t find anything until the last minute. This next culotte jumpsuit is everything I wanted from a wedding guest outfit. Fitted around the waist, loose in the leg to really show of curves.

Accessorised with a few heavy pieces to keep the balance. A woollen trench coat to balance the nude heels and a black Stella McCartney clutch.

I wore

Bag – Stella McCartney

This was truly one of the most magical days of the year and am so happy to have been able to celebrate such happiness and love in my family, welcome Tom x

The Addams Family Musical | Opening Night

When you’re an Addams *click click*

I am a theatre fanatic, for years my grandma would take me to a show for my birthday of Christmas. I’ve seen so many adaptations, musicals and plays and have loved them each individually. Some have left me with questions and others have left tears in my eyes.

On the 18th July Poppy and I headed to The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton to sit and be sung to by Wednesday, Puglsey, Gomez, Morticia and the whole Addams family. We ran in a storm to The Mayflower foyer and up in the lift to out seat in the circle. We were middle of the stage with a perfect view. There was a storm in the Addams family so it felt real.

The Addams Family musical will leave you wanting to raid your Halloween costume box for outfit inspo right away. I need to wear my ‘witch please’ earrings right now.

(Poppy and I after the show)

The plot was exactly what you want from a musical. Strange girl meets normal boy and their families meet over dinner. Family dynamics are tested and hilarity ensues. It’s like you or I meeting your boyfriends family but amped up 100%.

In alot of musicals I’ve seen have filler songs. Songs added to the score to fill space, that don’t add to the story. But the Addams family wasn’t like that, I really felt every song had a purpose and a place in the story. Questions were explained in song. Festers solo song was very beautiful and unexpected. The ensemble cast were hilarious and I think on stage nearly 100% of the time. I’m a fashion student though and though so looked at each characters costume in detail thoughtout the performance. I love costumes because they say who the character is even before they start to speak. (SPOILER: the moon’s costume is incredible)

I love watching It’s Way Past My Bedtime which is Carrie Hope fletchers youtube channel, if you didn’t know already she plays Wednesday. She’s truly and amazing singer and watching her belt live is amazing, the whole theatre was silent just in awe of her. I can’t sing like her so can’t give any critique but let me tell you, she’s amazing. Her Wednesday costume was so intricate and that corset. How can she sing in a corset?

When ever I go to the theatre I always get a program, and i tuck it safely into my little box of souvenir brochures. It’s the perfect keepsake. I thought I’d share with you my favourite page. Just look at Lurch!!! Look at him. One of the characters, who got the most laughs and after the final bow, came out of character and gave a little something something to the applauding audience.

Go see The Addams Family musical if you can. It’s at The Mayflower until the 29th then it goes to Cardiff. It’s totally worth it. website here

Have you seen The Addams Family yet?

Statement Jacket and Flatforms

Blogger friends are truly great, they understand that you want cute photos taken of you infront of colourful walls. They know the angles to shoot you and how to make you look confident for your blog. Poppy is one of these friends, we met at university and got on like a house of fire and have taken photos for each others blogs before. We spent a good hour getting the right shots of our outfits. She’s really talented and the best because I love the photos.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you’ll know that I love a good jacket. My mum actually got me this jacket from a charity shop, about 10 years ago (I know right this jacket is old).

I love bright and bold jackets and should be wearing this jacket more. The clashing colours next to my silk scarf shirt just makes the whole look so bold and statement. The faintest blues in the jacket are picked up with my Lulu Guinness bag, which is my pride and joy. Did I mention that it has fish on it?

Ofcourse I added bat earrings to the look, I love a bit of whimsy in an outfit. I was inspired by  Wednesday’s costume in The Addams Family musical which was why we were in Southampton. We went to see the show on opening night at The Mayflower. If you’ve not seen it yet, please do it’s great ( there will be a review on the blog soon)

jacket – Vintage

jeans – Primark

bag – lulu Guinness

Introduction to Neal’s Yard

Neal’s Yard Remedies

I’ve been focusing in on creating a skincare routine and have compiled a few pieces. My last post about L’Occitane was the first step and the second is Neal’s.

I was on my way to Frome when mum said there was a Neal’s Yard factory store on our route so we stopped into the store and bought a whole bunch of stuff.

We tried the infused tea and lemonade then perused the shelves for goodies.

Mum bought a bag full of hand cream and I of course got face stuff because I want to stay looking 23 for as long as possible. I picked the Orange Flower Facial oil, a Be Lovely Bath and Shower Gel, an Orange Flower Facial Wash  and a few other bits.

I really love the vibe of Neal’s, the lady behind the counter really talked with passion about the products and answered my questions and I learnt a little too. Apparently Neal’s use blue bottles to preserve to products the blue deflects the sun so Neal’s don’t have to add preservatives into their products.

I’m really sold on Neal’s and can’t wait to have glowing skin.

Have you guys tried Neal’s? What’s your favourite product? what should I get next?

I wore

Pink Shirt – Zara

Jeans – Primark

Denim Jacket – Baum und Pferdgarten

Shoes – Next

Bag – Vintage

L’Occitane Bournemouth

L’Occitane has come to Bournemouth.

L’Occitane En Provence

I am more then excited about it! I’ve read and seen a lot about L’Occitane but never had anything myself. I popped in the other day and came away with a couple things.

I loved the whole atmosphere of the bight orange/yellow store and wanted to get my hands on everything. I knew I wanted a new moisturiser to combat my oil prone skin in the summer.

Helped by the beautiful assistant who was more then helpful making sure there were no rose extracts in anything I liked and to guide me to making the right decision. I was given the option of Pivoine Sublime and something else, but I was drawn to PS from the off.

Pivoine Sublime – Perfecting Cream

For all skin types, made with peonies from the Drôme region of France. It smells amazing. It helps correct skin texture and colour, and hydrates my skin to no end. it’s quite a thick cream but sinks beautifully into the skin making it feel light and fresh. Peonies are one of my favourite flowers so, I’m in love.

I was so bold over by Pivoine Sublime that I got the Pivoine Flora shower gel! What can I say? I’m a sucker for a good smell.

I can’t wait to use the shower gel and feel like a true flower power girl. I was also given a few cheeky samples to try out which i am excited for.

I’m so excited to try some higher end skin care, and get into a more accomplished skin care routine.

What have you bought in L’Occitane? have you been to the Bournemouth Store?
