L’Escargot, Montorgueil
The day I ate snails for the first time ever.
L’Escargot is an absolute gem, we jumped off the train right next to Nelson Mandela’s Garden and found our way there. You really can’t miss this place, it’s got gold snails all over it.
Stumbling over my French we opted to dine outside, our waiter seemed quite please that I at least tried my hand at French.
These snails were amazing, the texture and look of a mushroom with an amazing kick of garlic. Of course we dipped our bread into the juice to lap up the flavour, not wanting to miss a single drop.
I got the deliciously huge steak medium to well done, the juiciest steak I’ve ever eaten. Nothing at all like the steak in England. Chlo’ went for the Haddock with radishes. We kept eyeing each others plates, and being totally gluttonous we swapped plates. The Haddock was a total surprise, a sweet taste with a creamy sauce. I’ve never had sweet fish before, it was a success.
Creme brûlée for pudding. I love creaking the top, it’s so satisfying. The sweet crunch mixed with the creaming insides, perfection.
N.B: Arrive before 2 like we did and take up the starter and main or main and pudding option €17.50 do sit outside if you can and people watch all the tourists and Parisians going about their day. The whole place is effortlessly chic and decadent. Chandeliers, gold detailing hanging vines that wind their way inside, snail details on the walls and glasses.
Trip advisor give L’Escargot a 4/5. I give it a 5/5
