Dorset Wine Festival

Dorset Wine Festival – 10 Castle Street

This is the first wine festival that Dorset have done and I was so happy to be able to witness it first hand. You pay your £36 ticket fee. ’35 quid!’ i hear you cry, yes but you get to drink pretty much as much wine as you can. I found a cheeky little discount code and took full advantage of it, because I am a student.

I’ll be the first to say know nothing about wine. Apart from I like reds more then white and sparking, but couldn’t tell you what regions I prefer of what grape is best.

We were given little glasses to try samples and a que card to take notes and to use our drink tokens. Ever the good student, I took notes but they got more incoherent as the day progressed.

We were in the grounds of 10 Castle Street which is a members only hotel, restaurant, bar but you can be a guest. I’ve wanted to see 10 Castle for about a year and only got a glimpse of the entry hall and bar, which were both perfectly decorated, but I would have loved to have been shown around.

Little marquees and spittoons were set up either side of the water feature, with all the wine vendors sheltering from the sun in the marquees. We started on the wine sparking side of the lawn. We sampled a German white from Philip Lang, and progressed down the Ardor. We got chatting to the merchant who chatted about how Ardor was made, the process of labelling the bottles the very impressive stand they were serving from. Ardor is the wine made from the same people who run The Larderhouse which is a restaurant in East Dorset with a unique bar. Which I really want to go to and will be going with H soon.

We explored the whole festival and found the Mother Ukers performing and the marquee where wine talks were going on, art sections to design the new label for 10 Castle Streets wine.

Having ticked off a few wine tokens we headed to the far field for some fuel. We chose the  Growler food truck and got sweet potato fries which were delicious. I went for mayo and H had ketchup.

After refuelling we headed back for more wine tasting. One of the stands was a lady talking about needing all your senses working to really appreciate wine. We were given nose clips to show how effected you can be by not having a sense working while tasting things. You can actually go on courses about wine tasting which is something I’d really love to do. To actually be able to talk about wine rather then saying it tastes delicious. We were told that if you eat the right food you can really have which ever wine you like, you just have to know what it goes will with.

We caught the last section of the South African talk about wine. Their vineyards are in Franschhoek where they talked about rain fall, struggles of growing a vineyard. Holden Manz had a merlot which was one of my favourites of the whole day. Here we are with 2 of the 3 People from South African wineries.

We worked our way around to a very friendly guy who told us that there was a wine he had called Bonkers, which we of course tried and loved. Everything he recommended we loved and he’d only tried everything that day. I felt really on the same page with him yet he knew what he was talking about.

I really hope that they host the Dorset Wine Festival again because it was really interesting learning about wine, I feel like I know a bit more then i did at the start. Next time I’d like to book lunch.

I hope this inspired you to come to the next wine festival, I’ll surely be going again.

The Addams Family Musical | Opening Night

When you’re an Addams *click click*

I am a theatre fanatic, for years my grandma would take me to a show for my birthday of Christmas. I’ve seen so many adaptations, musicals and plays and have loved them each individually. Some have left me with questions and others have left tears in my eyes.

On the 18th July Poppy and I headed to The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton to sit and be sung to by Wednesday, Puglsey, Gomez, Morticia and the whole Addams family. We ran in a storm to The Mayflower foyer and up in the lift to out seat in the circle. We were middle of the stage with a perfect view. There was a storm in the Addams family so it felt real.

The Addams Family musical will leave you wanting to raid your Halloween costume box for outfit inspo right away. I need to wear my ‘witch please’ earrings right now.

(Poppy and I after the show)

The plot was exactly what you want from a musical. Strange girl meets normal boy and their families meet over dinner. Family dynamics are tested and hilarity ensues. It’s like you or I meeting your boyfriends family but amped up 100%.

In alot of musicals I’ve seen have filler songs. Songs added to the score to fill space, that don’t add to the story. But the Addams family wasn’t like that, I really felt every song had a purpose and a place in the story. Questions were explained in song. Festers solo song was very beautiful and unexpected. The ensemble cast were hilarious and I think on stage nearly 100% of the time. I’m a fashion student though and though so looked at each characters costume in detail thoughtout the performance. I love costumes because they say who the character is even before they start to speak. (SPOILER: the moon’s costume is incredible)

I love watching It’s Way Past My Bedtime which is Carrie Hope fletchers youtube channel, if you didn’t know already she plays Wednesday. She’s truly and amazing singer and watching her belt live is amazing, the whole theatre was silent just in awe of her. I can’t sing like her so can’t give any critique but let me tell you, she’s amazing. Her Wednesday costume was so intricate and that corset. How can she sing in a corset?

When ever I go to the theatre I always get a program, and i tuck it safely into my little box of souvenir brochures. It’s the perfect keepsake. I thought I’d share with you my favourite page. Just look at Lurch!!! Look at him. One of the characters, who got the most laughs and after the final bow, came out of character and gave a little something something to the applauding audience.

Go see The Addams Family musical if you can. It’s at The Mayflower until the 29th then it goes to Cardiff. It’s totally worth it. website here

Have you seen The Addams Family yet?

Turquoise Dress in the Sun

I’ve kept this dress for a couple of years because it’s so breezy and easy to wear in the sun. Since Britain had decided that it is having summer this year I’ve dressed in another leg baring dress. Which for me is a huge step away from my normal hard dressing style.

The wind catches the handkerchief hem which keeps me cooler and it’s a gorgeous 70’s/80’s turquoise pattern too. yes, i have styled this dress with my gold loafers because they are gorgeous and will cry when they finally fall apart.

Because the dress is a couple years old I’ve looked for some great alternatives that I will put down in the ‘I wore’ section. x

I am so glad the sun had finally decided to stay and am loving being a little beach baby. Who else is loving then sun?

Floral Congratulations

My love for flowers came from my mum. Ever since I can remember she has had flowers in our house. decorating our coffee table, kitchen and fireplace with colourful blooms. We’ve both spent years giving and receiving flowers as gifts for our loved ones. They are personal and unique and have a lot of meaning.

I have an occasion to give the gift of flowers in my family because I’m going to be an aunty again. Im going to have a niece which makes me so overwhelmend with excitement, I’m so happy my family is growing. The lovely people at Prestige Flowers (voted #1 for next day flower delivery and Review Florist UK Editor’s Choice) kindly sent me one of the New Baby flower bouquets and a few little extras to give to my nieces’ mum.

They look so so beautiful and I couldn’t be happier with them. Unfortunately the daises did suffer a little in transit but all the other flowers look beautiful so you don’t really notice. In the bouquet you get bouvardia, peach roses, spray roses, stallion chrysamthemums, carnations and germinis and a little pink elephant. All very girlie and pink and perfect for a congratulations present. Also a little care note which tells you everything you need to know about looking after your flowers and how to preserve their longevity. Which for me is super handy because I’m more of a go with the flow kinda girl when it comes to my flower care.

When you order, you get the option of add ons which I of course got. A cute little grey penguin plushy a vase, a free box of chocolates and a little personalised note.

Details: Metallic Hair Clips

Did you ever wear bright coloured clips in your hair when you were younger? I know I did, I think I still have them. But I feel that 23 is just a little two old to be wearing glittery pink butterflies or dangly beads in my hair. I found the prefect alternative and wore them in my hair while out with my mum for the day.

We walked around Ashley Cross in Poole. Which looks like a little stars hollow and stopped for a piece of cake at The Dancing Moose

A tea and a coffee with millionaire shortbread to share

Back to the Clips –

I braided my hair like normal and pushed them into the twists and there you have it. They are still add that element of fun but with a little more sophistication. The different metals are so chic. To finish I added my Purple shades, I felt like i was giving off Anastacia vibes and I loved it.

Long Denim Jacket and Tile Shirt

This mosaic/ tile shirt reminds me of Hermes from the 70’s. I wanted to bring out the pink in the shirt by wearing my pink Dr Martens.

Long denim jackets are really on trend, I picked mine up a few years ago in Truro from Magpie and Fox. It’s a Baum und Pferdgarten piece. They have some amazing 70’s inspired pieces on their site.

I’ve been on the hunt for some new trousers, my skinny jeans have become an everyday item for me and it’s getting a little stagnant. It’s not warm enough to wear dresses quit yet.

I wore

Shirt – Matalan (old) some great alternatives

Jacket – Baum und Pferdgarten

Jeans – New Look

Shoes – Dr Martens

Vintage jacket in Athelhampton

dsc_0004-001

Around Christmas time Dorset comes to life with fairs and events all over the county. Dorset Food and Drink came to Athelhampton House. We wandered the tents looking for Dorsetshire foods and drinks. All the stall holders were locals showing off their craftsmanship. We ate artisan marshmallows, sausage rolls, sampled some alcohol. We tried a “chimney cake” or Kürtőskalács, it was so delicious.

Re:So | The Shed Opening

dsc_0149

Re:So is a store in the heart of Southampton that is run by student of Southampton Solent. They have just launched their new vintage section called The Shed.

The Southampton bloggers were treated to a cat walk preview of what would be in store and a first hand look at the collection before it goes live to the public tomorrow.

Vintage shopping is so exciting before there are nearly always gems that you can’t live without. If the cartoon jacket would have fit, it would have been mine ( it’s reversible to) I never see anything like that.

If you are ever in Southampton do go to Re:So it doesn’t house just vintage but independent designers.
